Under the command of Captain Arthur Philip in 1788, HMS Supply was a member of the 1st Fleet to arrive in Port Jackson Australia. With the convoy of 11 ships they carried 1500 marines,officers,seamen and their families & 732 convicts. They arrived to establish the penal colony of New South Wales.

The sinking of the RMS Titanic, British ship owned by the White Star Line in April 1912, on her maiden voyage to New York was memorably worse for the shortage of lifeboats. Originally designed to carry 32 lifeboats, RMS Titanic sailed to it's fate with only 20, enough for only half of the passengers. When launched from the sinking ship into the freezing seas the lifeboats were not full, worsening the tragedy further.
